Actor Cast as Jesus in “The Chosen” Gives Gratitude to God Every Morning – Portraying Jesus Has Changed His Life
With more than 94 million people around the world watching, “The Chosen” has taken the world by storm. Created by Dallas Jenkins, “The Chosen” is a series that follows Jesus and His disciples. The series has been praised by many for its historical and biblical accuracy and has been translated into 62 languages.
While Jonathan Roumie has found success playing the role of Jesus in the hit series, this was not always the case. In fact, the 48-year-old actor told The Christian Post that just 4 years ago, he was at his lowest point.
“I was broke; I didn’t know if I was going to continue to be an actor,” he said.
It was at that time that Roumie decided to “completely and utterly” surrender to God in every area of his life. Three months later, the actor received a call from Jenkins asking if he would like to play the role of Jesus in a series about Jesus Christ and His followers. It was the break that Roumie was looking for.
“The Chosen” just made its season three debut on Nov. 18 in 2,012 theaters finishing at no. 3 at the box office in the U.S., making $8,687,682.
“It’s forced me to depend even more than I thought I was depending on God already for everything in my life,” Roumie said of his portrayal of Jesus on the big screen. “There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t start with prayer and give gratitude for where God’s brought me through this journey.”
Roumie told The Christian Post that he prays that the series leads viewers to “a greater power,” to “God, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.”
“I hope that they can feel inspired to go read Scriptures and be inspired by the Word,” he said, “and maybe find the Church and get more involved in making God a greater part of their lives because your life only gets better.”
