Despite being left high and dry, this newlywed chose to channel her grief into charity.
Sarah Cummins and her fiancé Logan Araujo had spent two years arranging their perfect wedding. The extravagant event was planned to take place at the Ritz Charles in Carmel, Indiana, one of the city’s most opulent venues.
The bride and groom then decided to cancel the celebration a week before the big day.
While Cummins did not reveal the cause for the cancellation, she was nevertheless saddened by the unexpected change of plans.
In addition, the celebration came with a $30,000 non-refundable payment.
Instead of throwing away the food and decorations, the 25-year-old Purdue University student called nearby homeless shelters and invited the occupants to her wedding celebration.
Over 150 homeless people from the city turned out to enjoy a perfectly prepared supper and reception.
Furthermore, word of Cummins’ generosity spread on social media, motivating additional neighbors to give formal apparel for the guests.
“It was an opportunity for me to show these people that they deserved to be here just as much as everyone else,” Cummins told Indystar.
