Once paralyzed, and now winning Golden Buzzer and making his family proud and the judges cry…

When Barry Darcy competed on “Ireland’s Got Talent,” he accomplished more than just receiving a Golden Buzzer.

The devastating spinal injury that left the 38-year-old father of two from Cork, Ireland, paralyzed from the waist down in 2013 led him to believe he would never be able to walk again. But the self-described admirer of Elvis Pressley was determined to pursue his singing ambitions and regain his ability to walk.

Darcy had experience performing as an Elvis impersonator. It therefore came as no surprise that when he entered the reality television singing competition, he chose to perform the Elvis song “The Wonder of You.”

When he entered the stage and informed the audience that he had believed he would never be able to sing or walk again, the man could not help but become emotional. He claimed that he choose the Elvis song as his theme song because he wanted to uphold the promise made by his wife and two sons to support him while he battled back from paralysis.

Darcy sang his heart out, making it clear how much his family’s support meant to him on his journey to recovery. He brought the audience and judges to their feet with his touching rendition of this classic song.

Darcy advanced to the next stage of competition after Judge Louis Walsh, who was extremely impressed, gave him the Golden Buzzer. The family of Barry rushed outside to embrace their hero.
