The ensemble cast of “The Office” is frequently asked when a reunion or reboot series would ever be done, but the show’s original lead and creator, Mindy Kaling, recently stated on “Good Morning America” that “The Office” simply could not be made today. Why? “That show is so incredibly insensitive at this point,” Kaling remarked.
“The writers that I’m still in touch with now, we always talk about how so much of that show we probably couldn’t produce now,” Kaling said. “We always talk about how so much of that show we couldn’t make now.” “People’s preferences have evolved, and in all candor, the things that irritate them have become vastly different over the years. I believe that this is actually one of the reasons that the program is famous because people feel as though there is something kind of brave about it or forbidden that it talks about on the show. ”
When Mindy Kaling was asked what her character, Kelly Kapoor, who is obsessed with pop culture, would be doing in a 2022 version of “The Office,” she reacted by saying, “I imagine she would have quit Dunder Mifflin to become an influencer, and then probably be canceled, almost soon.” In point of fact, the majority of the cast members on that show have been let go by this point.
Between the years 2005 and 2013, the American version of the British television series with the same name, “The Office,” aired on NBC for a total of 201 episodes over the course of 9 seasons. Among the other cast members, Mindy Kaling worked alongside the likes of Steve Carell, John Krasinski, Jenna Fisher, B.J. Novak, and Rainn Wilson. Carell has often stated that he will under no circumstances take part in a remake of the series.
In response to a question from Collider in 2018 regarding the possibility of a new season of “The Office,” Carell responded, “I’ll tell you, no.” The popularity of the show has significantly increased since it was originally broadcast. I just can’t see it being the same thing, and while I think the majority of people would like it to be the same thing, it simply wouldn’t be the same thing. In the end, I believe that it’s probably best not to mess with success and to just let it continue to exist in its previous form.
Carell stated, “You’d literally have to have all of the same writers, producers, directors, and performers, and even with all of those components, it just wouldn’t be the same. It just wouldn’t be the same.” So, no. But I really enjoy seeing it. That was the most thrilling time of my life, and every single one of those folks is a buddy of mine. We are all in awe of it. It was a remarkable occurrence. It was already a special object even before people began to recognize its unique status as such. Even before other people began to feel the same way, it held a unique significance for us. But, no.”
Peacock now offers streaming access to all episodes of “The Office,” making it possible to watch the show in its entirety.
