Following their performance of Donny Hathaway’s “This Christmas” on Monday’s episode of The View, the former contestants from American Idol made the announcement that they will be releasing a new album titled Twenty to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their time spent competing on the singing competition show’s second season in 2003.
“We’re getting old, Ruben. We will soon be celebrating our 20th anniversary, which begins with the year that we appeared on American Idol “Aiken, 44, remarked. As a result, Ruben and I have decided to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary by embarking on a tour together that will take us all over the United States throughout the course of the year.
In addition, he stated as follows: “We’re starting out this spring, and we’re going to be commemorating the last 20 years since we did Idol, as well as the music we’ve gotten to make and the friendships we’ve gotten to build along the road.”
After making the news, Studdard, now 44 years old, quickly followed it up on his Instagram account with a promotional photograph and a list of upcoming tour dates. “Twenty years after making our first appearances on American Idol, my friend Clay Aiken and I are going on tour together this spring. Tour dates begin on April 12 in Troy, New York, and run through May 16 in Wausau, Wisconsin. The tour features a total of 24 stops across the country.
A week later, on the May 28 episode of the final season of American Idol, the two will give a live performance together. This will mark 20 years to the day when Studdard won season 2 on May 21, 2003, the same night that Aiken finished in second place.
Aiken had previously paid tribute to Studdard and their 20-year connection earlier this month. He did so by releasing a series of throwback images from across the years and expressing gratitude to the program for providing him with “one of the greatest friendships of my life.”
