A first-grader from California got permission to have her own pet unicorn, which is every little girl’s dream.
The little girl, whose name was only Madeline, sent a letter to the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control on November 14 asking for permission to “have a unicorn in my backyard if I can find one.”
She got permission a couple of weeks later.
In a letter dated Nov. 30, department director Marcia Mayeda said, “Thank you very much for your letter asking for permission to have a unicorn in your backyard.”
“I’m happy to tell you that unicorns can get licenses from the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control under the following conditions:”
“1. The unicorn must be cared for according to all of the rules in Title 10 of the Los Angeles County Code about taking care of animals.”
“2. The unicorn is always able to see rainbows, moonbeams, and sunlight.”
“3. Watermelon, one of the unicorn’s favorite treats, is given to it at least once a week.”
“4. The unicorn must take care of its horn to stay healthy. This needs to be buffed with a soft cloth at least once a month.”
“5. Any sparkles or glitter that are put on the unicorn must be safe and biodegradable for its health.”
Mayeda then praised Madeline for being a “responsible pet owner” and sent her “a preapproved unicorn license for when you find one.”
