Food has always been an obsession for Kenny Saylors. But following a terrifying and abrupt separation with his girlfriend in 2006, he fell into a dangerously bad eating pattern.
He started a 55-day fasting program in 2009 with the assistance of specialists and medical professionals, during which he just drank water and consumed no food. It goes without saying that the journey was dangerous; multiple doctors had advised him against it due to the risks involved.
Kenny, though, managed to survive. His life has been a rollercoaster ever since. Kenny claimed that at his heaviest, he weighed more than 500 pounds; fortunately, he was able to change his situation before it was too late.
Kenny is doing better than ever today, and nothing can keep him down. So let’s look at his extraordinary journey.
Maintaining a healthy diet can be challenging. It can occasionally be challenging to prepare healthy food if you have a family, a partner, or time-consuming hobbies. Not to mention the fact that a healthy diet can be somewhat costly.
In contrast, fast food is straightforward and occasionally even enjoyable. But if used excessively, it’s detrimental to your health in the long run. Doctors constantly urge their patients to exercise for this reason. Fitness benefits your body, mind, and soul, to put it simply.
These days, it seems like everyone is trying to teach others how to lead healthy lives by working out, eating well, and developing inner peace so that we can feel amazing.
Such people are lauded for being inspirational and are frequently themselves in excellent physical shape. However, I also believe that those who may be having weight problems are deserving of credit for taking matters into their own hands and beginning to make changes.
You’ll recognize the type of individuals I’m referring to. A few of them have been featured on well-known weight-loss programs like My 600-lb-Life. Others decide to make subtler changes to their lives while relying on the encouragement of friends and family. Kenny Saylors, who was able to drastically change his course in life, is one of such people.
The Texas native made the decision to film a documentary about his most recent effort to lose weight in 2013. It includes not eating anything at all and drinking only water for 55 days, which is reputed to be a world record. Kenny would essentially serve as a test subject to observe what would transpire.
Naturally, he needed a doctor’s supervision to finish the task, and it was the beginning of an amazing metamorphosis.
Saylors is still trying to motivate people to follow him on his weight-loss quest today.
Saylors was an ordinary adolescent like any other young kid.
He attended high school, participated in the marching band, and adored sports. He was in good shape, weighing 160 pounds in his senior year.
He was active as a child from the time he learned to walk. He enjoyed playing football, was kind to everyone, and appreciated sports. In his documentary Facing The Fat, Kenny’s mother noted that her son was sociable with everyone.
“When he entered high school, he appeared nearly frail due to his extreme thinness. I never anticipated that he would put on this much weight, so when he did, he began coughing.
Later, doctors determined that Kenny’s persistent coughing was caused by his weight growth and the significant amount of body fat he possessed. So what took place?
Saylors’ weight loss started to spiral out of control in 2006, though. He was already leaning in the wrong direction at that time, and when his girlfriend dumped him, things got ugly. He had reportedly believed that their relationship was going well. Then, out of nowhere, his girlfriend called him and broke the news.
Kenny began eating as a coping mechanism for his crushing sadness.
“I was in shock. I was broken, not just broken-hearted. And she stopped it without ever giving me a reason. I wasn’t sure how to handle that emotionally. No closer was available. I put on more than 80 pounds over the course of the following year after that. I kept eating because food doesn’t turn you away, Saylors said.
“When people look at me, all they see is a fat guy. But what they fail to notice is that I face daily challenges as a human. I’m working on getting past it. I know there are individuals around who are considerably larger than I am, so I can’t even begin to picture what they are going through.
Kenny continued to gain weight throughout the years. His weight increased dramatically between 2007 and 2008, from 235 pounds to a staggering 315 pounds. He finally decided enough was enough and entered a water fasting program in 2009, three years after the separation with his ex.
So what exactly is a water fast?
Water-only fasting is defined as “an absolute cessation of food consumption while sipping water” in a 2021 study. This kind of fasting is thought to enhance health and might inspire dietary and lifestyle modifications. This kind of intervention has been shown to trigger physiological changes that may be beneficial to health. It says they include “increased physical and mental wellbeing, greater ketogenesis, regulated hormone activity, reduced inflammation and oxidative stress symptoms, lipolysis, and autophagy.
We must first acknowledge and keep in mind that everyone of us is a unique individual before moving on.
While some people might find it simpler to lose weight than others, everyone has to put in some effort. One person’s success does not guarantee that another will have the same results from a particular strategy. So see a doctor to find out what would work best for you before beginning any specific weight-loss program or approach.
Kenny Saylors entered the fasting program with the conviction that he could succeed. He was little over 53% body fat at the time. He had an amazing 55 days of nothing but water ahead of him.
Kenny’s doctor advised him to consume “Smartwater,” which has electrolytes added. Specific minerals known as electrolytes are required to control bodily cells and organs.
We want to stress once more that anyone reading this article who has any thoughts of trying something similar should always talk to a doctor first.
Kenny underwent his first colonic irrigation just a few days into the fast, using warm water to help clean his colon of waste. After then, Kenny proceeded to eat nothing but water with the help of friends and family. Additionally, he played tennis and generally made an effort to exercise.
Amazingly, he continued to hang out with many of his friends at dinner parties and BBQs, remaining steadfast and resisting the need to eat throughout.
Week by week, things became more challenging. Kenny gradually lost stamina. He struggled to even get out of bed on some days. He was initially meant to observe a 40-day fast. But when he learned that a man by the name of Agasi Vartanyan had successfully fasted for 50 days, Kenny determined that breaking it was a target he had to shoot for.
How did he fare then? In the end, Kenny performed outstandingly. He shed about 50 pounds in all. Now he had a clear path to a healthy way of living. Sadly, he quickly put on weight again and nearly reached 500 pounds a few years later.
As a result, Kenny committed himself to living a healthy lifestyle once more in 2013. In addition, he launched a website where people could follow his journey, which he termed “Reinventing Kenny.”
“Because of my size, I had a poor quality of life and adopted a largely solitary existence. Saylors stated on his website, “I could not even climb stairs without suffering excruciating agony in my joints from the stresses of lugging around so much fat. I could not even walk across a flat parking lot without losing breath.
“I didn’t WANT to be this way, but after more than a decade and hundreds of unsuccessful attempts to control my obesity – trying every conceivable eating plan, program, and lifestyle – I had become hopeless and resigned myself to the fact that I would be “the fat guy” for the rest of my life,” the author writes.
Kenny believed he needed to make a crucial decision.
“I required a purpose in mind”
He had to act right away or suffer a “early, senseless death.” He did this to encourage himself and others that a significant shift was possible by taking selfies, which he later referred to as “the images I never wanted to take.”
Kenny exerted himself. He improved his diet and workout regimen, which resulted in a weight loss of 80 pounds. Unfortunately, the Covid 19 epidemic caused a serious setback, and in 2021, other events prevented him from making any further progress.
“Life took an even heavier toll on me, as I encountered a number of emotional difficulties that nearly destroyed me and pushed me to the edge of depression. At 420 pounds, I knew that in order to accomplish the seemingly impossible, I needed a clear aim and the support of those around me.
Kenny believed that he needed to slim down and get in shape once and for all.
The motivational Texas native now shares his weight-loss journey with the world via his social media platforms. John, a friend and health expert, has created a program for Kenny that should hopefully make things simpler.
Kenny is a great fighter even if he still has a ways to go before reaching his target weight of 220 pounds. He simply won’t give in, which has made him a terrific influence for others.
He currently co-owns a production firm with his brother and serves as executive producer for a number of documentary shows. His documentaries have appeared in numerous film festivals across the nation.
He celebrated a significant achievement in September 2020 after shedding 100 pounds!
“After more than ten years of bad habits and food addiction, this road is full of incredible highs and lows and demands devotion to actually alter one’s life and fight the fat. According to Kenny’s website, “I have decided to openly document it all, in real-time, as I travel this route, for that reason.
