One of Princess Diana’s close confidants is opening up about their last phone call before she was killed in a shocking crash in Paris. On August 31, 1997, Princess Diana tragically died in a car crash in the Pont de l’Alma tunnel in Paris while fleeing the paparazzi. Friend Richard Kay recalled the last phone call he had with Princess Diana in the new Diana documentary. “I spoke to her that night,” the longtime Royal reporter recalled, as per The Mirror. “[The] police said that the last call she made was to me.” The mother of Prince William and Prince Harry, then 15 and 12, was “in quite a good place,” shared Kay. But above all, “she wanted to come back and see her boys.” Diana was also keen on starting a new chapter in her life. “She was desperate to try and make a fresh start and do something different,” said Kay, “to explore a different kind of royalty.”

Her death took a toll on not just the world, but especially on her young sons. Harry recently spoke about how it felt to grieve his mother’s death with the whole world watching. “There were so many people of all ages that need to heal and also for one reason or another are unable to heal or may be unaware that they need to heal,” Harry said during an episode of The Me You Can’t See. “If we hold onto grief, it manifests itself and appears later in life. That is what I’ve learned from this process,” he added.
