On Sunday, Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick went on one of those infrequent occasions when they took their family out to dinner.
The family of five was spotted in New York City attending the opening night performance of the brand-new Broadway musical Some Like It Hot. The couple’s twin daughters, Tabitha Hodge and Marion Loretta Elwell are 13 years old, and their son, James Wilkie, is 19 years old.
At the Shubert Theatre, the happy family was captured by photographers as they posed for pictures.
The family of five made sure to look their very best for their evening out. Parker, 57, accented her outfit with black and white heels, a long pearl necklace, and a long pearl strand. She wore a dress in a sparkling blue color and a trench coat in a cream color. Broderick, who was 60 years old at the time, dressed to complement his wife by wearing a blue checkered jacket, dark pants, and a turtleneck that matched.
Both of the girls were dressed in skirts with floral jackets, while James donned a dark suit with a white shirt and a checkered tie to imitate his father’s sophisticated style.
Even though James wasn’t able to make it, Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick brought their two daughters with them to the New York City premiere of Hocus Pocus 2 back in September.
The family doesn’t go out together very frequently, but they did go to the opening night of the Broadway revival of the classic Neil Simon comedy Plaza Suite, in which Parker and Broderick appeared, back in March. This is one of the few times that the family has been seen together in public.
In December of last year, Broderick and James were both in attendance for the premiere of And Just Like That…
The renowned Marilyn Monroe starred in the 1959 MGM movie of the same name, Some Like It Hot, which was transformed into the Broadway musical Some Like It Hot.
It features a score by Tony Award–winning songwriters Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray, Catch Me If You Can, Smash), who fill the show with a collection of jazzy, period-perfect tunes, including the upbeat title number that was released back in June. The show is set during the Prohibition era.
At Sunday’s star-studded debut, renowned figures such as Bette Midler, Debra Messing, Matthew Morrison, John Stamos, Andy Cohen, Uma Thurman, Jane Krakowski, Nathan Lane, Martin Short, Andrea Martin, and Victor Garber were also in attendance. The event took place on Sunday.
In the film Some Like It Hot, the action takes place in Chicago at a time “when Prohibition has everyone thirsty for a little excitement.” The plot follows two musicians who are forced to flee Windy City after witnessing a mafia hit. The show’s logline states, “With gangsters hard on their tails, they’re on the run as the newest members of the swinging big band ever to cross the country,” and the show is titled “The Swingingest Big Band Ever to Cross the Country.” “Are they able to conceal themselves while remaining themselves even when others see them? Or will the mob, the truth, and possibly even love itself catch up to them in the end?”
Amber Ruffin, a comedian and writer who is most known for her work on Peacock’s The Amber Ruffin Show, and Matthew López, the writer of the Tony Award–winning play The Inheritance, adapted the film for the stage and rewrote the script together. Casey Nicholaw, the winner of a Tony Award, is responsible for the direction and choreography (The Book of Mormon, The Prom, Aladdin, The Drowsy Chaperone, etc.).
