The poor little baby was put into the hospital because of this famous toy…

Any parent will be able to attest to how frightening it may be to protect your kids from common dangers. A young child may perceive danger in a variety of things, including furniture, food, the environment, and more.

In Portland, Maine, a mother’s worst nightmare came true when her infant girl was injured by an apparently innocuous item in their home.
Four lovely children, three boys and Kennedy Jane, a 9-month-old girl, being raised by Folichia Mitchell. Kennedy Late in October, Jane ingested a water bead, and she is still struggling for her life today.

One of the many popular sensory-based toys nowadays are water beads, which can be used safely provided a child uses them under adult supervision. They enlarge when they come into touch with water and are roughly the size of a stone.

Unfortunately, that is precisely why Kennedy Jane swallowing it was so risky. The bead grew to half an inch after being swallowed, finally entering her intestines and rupturing them.

Her mother was unaware of her distress until she stopped feeding normally, as babies are still unable to completely express it.

Mitchell told WMTW that “she went two days without eating anything.” She had not even been taken off the stretcher when we arrived at Portland Hospital when she began throwing up bile.

The mother of the child said, “The bead obstructed her small intestine, causing it to enlarge so much that it seeped into her body, which led to sepsis and an infection. This week, she underwent three procedures. Her heart was racing, her kidneys were in pain, and her lungs were straining.

In the interim, a family friend established a GoFundMe to cover the family’s expenses, including the care for Kennedy in the pediatric intensive care unit and continuing to provide for her three brothers.

Kennedy Jane has been in the hospital since October 31; nevertheless, there are reports that she is getting better. Her operation is set for this Wednesday, but her body is still battling a number of viruses.

Her mother had no idea something so basic could be so hazardous. The item is undoubtedly a choking hazard, as stated on the warning label, but Mitchell never imagined it would affect her daughter’s organs as severely as it has.

Parents are unable to make an informed decision before purchasing, according to Mitchell. “I never would have purchased these and taken them into my home if I had seen ‘toxic if consumed, can cause obstruction’.”

Kennedy To ensure that what happened to her daughter won’t happen to anyone else, Jane’s mother has started to push for clearer warnings on water beads. She clarifies:

I simply sincerely hope that people would think well of my daughter or will pray for her to get through this.
