Cindy Crawford was one of the first supermodels to emerge in the ’90s, and to this day, not only does her legend endure, but she is still active in the modeling industry. In recent years, Crawford’s daughter Kaia Gerber has taken the modeling world by storm, demonstrating that beauty and modeling skill truly does run in the family. Crawford’s popularity will never fade, but Kaia Gerber’s success shows that beauty and modeling talent really do run in the family. In addition to this, Kaia resembles her mother when she was in her prime quite closely.
A striking familial resemblance is not at all rare, especially in the case of famous people. However, when your mother is a supermodel, you might argue that Crawford’s children are incredibly fortunate to have her as a parent. Crawford and her husband, Rande Gerber, are the parents of two children: a boy called Presley Gerber, who is now 23 years old, and a daughter named Kaia, who is 21 years old.
Kaia is the one who has followed in her mother’s footsteps and is turning her wonderful looks into a job. Both of the children have taken after their parents’ spectacular good features — in fact, they are a highly photogenic family — but it is Kaia who has turned her good looks into a vocation. If you had the same features as your mother, Cindy Crawford, then you would have them too.
Despite the fact that she is just 21 years old, Kaia has already had a significant impact on the fashion world. Already in her brief career, she has been in a variety of fashion shows, publications, and advertising, among other things. In point of fact, Kaia was bestowed with the title of Model of the Year at The Fashion Awards in the year 2018.
It should come as no surprise that the mother and daughter have impeccable taste given that both are prominent figures in the fashion industry. But as Kaia has developed into the young lady that she is now, her fashion sense has also become more differentiated from that of her mother’s. Crawford and Kai both attended a girl’s night out that was held in honor of the editor of British Vogue, Edward Enninful.
At first sight, it is easy to see that Kaia takes like her mother in a significant way since the two of them have the same deep-set chocolate eyes, gorgeous lips, and statuesque proportions. The mother and daughter seem to have a very strong bond, as Crawford often brags on Instagram about her daughter’s accomplishments. In recognition of Crawford’s Model of the Year award for 2019, she uploaded a picture of the two of them dressed to the nines with the caption:
“My sincere best wishes go out to my not-so-little-girl-anymore @kaiagerber on winning the award for model of the year. I am really pleased with you! Xo”
One commenter put into words what many of us, at one time or another, have all thought:
“If I may be so bold as to say it, the two of you look more like sisters than anything else!”
In a subsequent post, Crawford revealed a picture that she had taken behind the scenes of the two of them posing together for an advertisement. This is what she wrote:
“When your garage is turned into a studio, the expression “work from home” takes on a whole new meaning. On set for @omega with my favorite model @kaiagerber and #normanjeanroy”
It is clear that the bond shared by the mother and daughter because of the frequency with which they are captured spending time together in photographs. During the summer of 2019, Kaia was seen on camera with her parents to a restaurant in New York for lunch. Kaia, ever the trendy member of Generation Z, looked absolutely stunning in a black gingham minidress paired with shoes, while Crawford looked traditionally elegant in a summer dress with a snakeskin design. During this time, Rande opted to wear a classic combination of a white T-shirt and blue trousers.
When Kaia initially started out in the field of modeling, she maintained a more straightforward and laid-back approach to her sense of style. However, now that she is in her 20s, she is able to pull off more high-fashion looks.
Crawford and Kaia were the perfect pair to sit down with Vogue and discuss the changes that have taken place in the fashion industry, particularly modeling in the age of social media, due to their closeness as well as their dominance of the modeling industry in two very different eras. Both Crawford and Kaia have been extremely successful in the modeling industry. During the in-depth conversation that took place in 2019, Crawford revealed that she entered the fashion industry at the age of 16, years before Vogue and other fashion institutions implemented an 18+ policy. At the same time, Kaia began her career at the same age, although she did so under her mother’s tutelage.
Kaia discussed the impact that her mother has had on her professional path, and she stated:
“If anybody else had a point of reference, it was obviously me, and I think the one I provided was one of the greatest. When it came to me, modeling wasn’t a strange world to enter, and I had the impression that I knew it. I had some idea of what I was getting myself into.”
Next, Crawford shared the wise advice that she always follows while modeling and that she has taught her daughter: “Do your research.” This sage advice means that you should be familiar with the prior work of the photographer or designer you are working with and that you should arrive prepared. We have no doubt that Kaia took her mother’s advice about that matter, given the rapid advancement of her professional career.
Regarding the subject of social media, Kaia discussed the fact that she and her mother were both educated on the issue at the same time, which prevented her from receiving instruction from her mother. She said that while it has been interesting for people all over the globe to see more behind-the-scenes pictures of models, revealing that they don’t simply wake up looking stunning and ready for Vogue, it has also removed some of the mystique that once surrounded the profession.
When asked about her feelings over similarities to her renowned mother, Kaia responded as follows:
“It is the highest compliment that could possibly be paid to me (to be compared to Crawford), particularly when people tell me that I behave similarly to her. If I had to be compared to anybody in the whole world, it would be her. That is, in my opinion, the highest praise that can be given since she exudes the greatest confidence, compassion, and grace in the way that she handles herself.”
It would seem that Crawford and Kaia are not only beautiful on the outside but also have good hearts. That, as Kaia pointed out, is the most accurate analogy.
In September of 2022, Crawford and Kaia did a few activities together as a mother and daughter, demonstrating that their relationship is as strong as it has ever been. The first event was a celebration in honor of “A Visible Man,” the autobiography written by Enninful. Kaia flaunted her edgier side in a black strappy minidress designed by Nensi Dojaka, whilst Crawford looked lovely in a caramel brown attire consisting of a top and leather skirt. Crawford’s outfit was designed by Nensi Dojaka. While Kaia has established herself as a new fashion symbol for Generation Z, Crawford’s look has stayed faithful to its bombshell beginnings throughout her career.
When it was discovered that the mother and daughter had gone on a spur-of-the-moment trip to the music festival Burning Man the same month, it demonstrated that despite the fact that they are recognized for their beauty and ability to dress to impress, they are not afraid to rough it in the desert either. Crawford posted the following on Instagram:
“It’s been a week since I returned from Burning Man, and I still can’t believe it! After @kaiagerber and I were given a spur-of-the-moment invitation by some mutual acquaintances, we exchanged glances and asked ourselves, “Why not?””
The supermodel posted pictures on her Instagram account of herself and her friend Kaia wearing protective gear against the sand, including large goggles, scarves wrapped over their faces, and practical leggings and boots. Crawford said that the experience was all she “hoped it would be and so much more” and that the environment “enabled (her) to reconnect to (her) maiden self — adventurous, fun, inquisitive, and carefree.” Crawford was referring to her younger, more carefree, and adventurous self.
